Let's get cultured: Vienna Therapy
One of my favourite things about Melbourne is the culture. This city is bursting at the seams with it. There is always something to do, something to see, to explore, to learn.
This month, a little slice of Austrian heaven has graced us with it’s presence in the form of Vienna Therapy’, an art installation that has just popped up in Federation Square.
Created by Nychos – a hugely successful, young artist who is representing a whole new generation of creative talents in Vienna – ‘Vienna Therapy’ features an impressive three-metre tall sculpture of Sigmund Freud, the father of pschoanalyis.
Teaming up with the Vienna Tourist Board, Nychos created the installation to present a modern portrait of Freud’s inner mind with the piece also paying homage to his celebrated work in developing a deeper understanding of the human psyche and our sub consciousness.
On top of the installation (which is absolutely Instagramable), you can take part in the interactive opportunity to enter a competition to win a trip for two to Vienna!
In keeping with the Freudian theme, you are invited to put on a brainwave-sensitive headset that is used to steer a mini tram through a small scale 3D model of Vienna, using only your thoughts!
(Sounds crazy but you’ll basically be creating a personalised ‘Vienna Mind Map’ of all the places you could visit in the Austrian capital).
Melbourne is only the second city in the world to be lucky enough to secure this installation, which is free to check out and open NOW until Sunday, March 12.
Can’t make it to Fed Square? Never fear! You can still enter the competition to win a trip to Vienna by hitting up the ‘Vienna Therapy’ microsite and taking a test that asks you to interpret pictures to reveal your hidden desires. (I have a feeling my ‘hidden desires’ will be burgers…interpret that how you want).
Vienna is so much more than Waltz and Baroque castles and if you win the trip, I’m afreud you’ll have to take me.
