Glamping Amongst The Stars
Yesterday marked one year since I moved from Sydney to Melbourne and what better way to celebrate it than by doing something super hipster and Melbourney with my best Melbourne gal pal, Gen.
St Jerome’s - The Hotel is an urban oasis set on top of Melbourne Central smack bang in the middle of the CBD.
Having camped at ‘Splendour In the Grass’ year after year, I was super excited to try my hand at ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping) especially since the entire concept was the brainchild of Jerome Bozario aka. Mr. Laneways Festival himself.
Upon arriving you’re transported from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne Central and all it’s shopping center madness across an AstroTurf bridge and out onto the rooftop.
The novelty is instant and never wears off.
The AstroTurf continues, covering the entire space and convincingly fooling your brain to believe you are now in a concrete jungle, minus the concrete. There is a West and East wing with rows and rows of mini circus tents, wooden decks, wrought iron animals and lots of oversized pot plants and palms, making you feel completely relaxed, despite being in the middle of one of Australia’s busiest cities.
The tops of the neighboring buildings and LED billboards throw colorful light over the entire hotel, acting as a perfect reminder that you’re about to spend the night on top of the city, in a pimped out tent no less.
There are two types of tents you can set up camp in: Luxe (4m Homecamp bell tents) and Luxe Plus (5m Homecamp bell tents which come with a minibar), all fitted out with bold and beautiful linen including electric blankets, carpets, fluffy robes, free Wifi and gumboots for that midnight dash to the portaloo’s.
Speaking of, these are some 5 star portaloos. Each of them includes a shower, Toni & Guy products and are bright, spacious, clean, heated and best of all, PRIVATE.
Other highlights include the general store where you can find anything from bed socks and playing cards to French champagne, complimentary high-tea featuring Cupcake Central cupcakes and macaroons, happy hour at 5pm watching the sunset as the city lights come to life, morning meditation classes, delicious breakfast hampers and coffee delivered straight to your tent at a time of your choice.
In terms of room service, Grill’d provide burgers and beers from 8pm and the hotel has cleverly partnered up with Strike bowling to offer it’s guests free bowling for a bit of night time entertainment.
The bed was as soft as a cloud, the tent toasty and warm, my breakfast bagel delicious, the staff were super friendly and the night itself was truly magical and something I won’t be forgetting any time soon.
St Jerome’s - The Hotel is the perfect way to spend a night in Melbourne, my only concern is that I’ll struggle to go back to a normal tent in the mud with a blow up mattress.
5/5 stars (pun intended), definitely check it out!
